Nami Surgical Welcomes Kevin Houser as IP Champion and Advisor

We are delighted to announce that Kevin Houser, P.E., has joined Nami Surgical as IP Champion and Advisor, bringing with him an extraordinary record of innovation, intellectual property leadership, and engineering excellence.

Kevin was a key member of the Ethicon Endo-Surgery team at Johnson & Johnson, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the success of the Harmonic Scalpel Brand, an ultrasonic product line that transformed surgical practice worldwide. As Lead Engineer and technology inventor behind the Harmonic ACE™ platform, Kevin not only drove the development of a >$1B product line but also guided the expansion of ultrasonic technologies into new clinical areas such as orthopaedics and plastic surgery.

During his tenure at Ethicon and later as Director of IP Strategy and Engineering Fellow, Kevin was responsible for aligning technology and intellectual property strategy with business-critical goals. His initiatives improved patent filings year-over-year and established new global best practices in intellectual property development.

‘’Kevin’s track record speaks for itself, he was part of the team that defined a surgical era with the Harmonic Scalpel. Having him join Nami is a major milestone, giving us world-class expertise to drive both our technology and our IP portfolio forward as we grow.” Dr Rebecca Cleary, CTO

Kevin has authored over 250 U.S. patents across multiple disciplines and has served as an expert witness in numerous high-stakes intellectual property cases. His deep expertise in ultrasonic medical devices, patent prosecution, infringement analysis, and IP portfolio development uniquely positions him to strengthen Nami’s innovation engine as we scale.

At Nami, Kevin will be instrumental in shaping and protecting our intellectual property portfolio while guiding the evolution of our miniaturised ultrasonic scalpel platform into new clinical applications, working closely with our local IP firm ‘Lincoln IP’.

“I’m excited to work closely with Kevin as part of Nami’s journey. His unique expertise in ultrasonic surgical technologies and intellectual property strategy will be invaluable as we work to expand Nami’s IP portfolio. Together, we aim to protect Nami’s innovation in this space, where the impact on patients’ lives through surgery is both immediate and substantial.” Daniel Coward, Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney
