Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. At Nami, every stage of development is supported by people who make sure the work behind the technology runs smoothly, safely and with clear purpose. Our Operations team is a vital part of this. They keep the organisation aligned, support testing, strengthen quality systems and create the structure that allows our engineers and scientists to focus on what they do best.
We spoke to Kirsten McGlennon, Kiara Walsh and Matthew Davis about their current priorities, how they collaborate with teams across the business, and what people often do not realise about the role Operations plays.
What’s the main focus of the Operations team at Nami right now?
Our main focus is keeping the business running smoothly, maintaining a focus for R&D teams on innovation. This includes managing investor reporting, company events, HR activities, social events, and coordinating external visitors on-site.
How does your work support testing and development?
Responsibility for writing protocols and test plans, and for coordinating communication between all teams involved in testing. During experiments, running data collection and recording observations from different teams to amalgamate data. Organising visits from key opinion leaders and medical professionals to gain insights into real-world applications of our technology.
How do you work with the other teams to keep everything aligned?
We stay aligned through regular meetings, open discussions around test protocols and plans, and by mapping out progress and next steps together.
What are some of the biggest challenges or achievements from the past year?
One major achievement has been improving the QMS within Nami and facilitating inhouse testing which has contributed to a 265% reduction in vessel sealing times since April 2024. A key challenge remains in managing the many variables and unknowns that come with testing our new technology.
How do you help ensure quality and compliance during testing?
We maintain quality by using verbal callouts during testing to keep everyone, from data collection to the electronics team and surgical team, aligned. We also write and follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistent benchmarks for parameter testing and tissue handling.
What’s one thing people might not realise about what Operations does at this stage
Many don’t see how closely Operations is tied to the technical work. Beyond managing logistics, we help translate between the business, engineering, and clinical teams to keep testing efficient and focused.
As Nami continues to progress towards clinical readiness, the behind-the-scenes work becomes more important than ever. The Operations team brings structure, clarity and coordination to a fast-moving environment, ensuring every test, visit and decision supports safer and more effective surgical innovation.
